What protective gear does your child need?

Whether on a scooter, skateboard, bike, BMX, or hoverboard – anyone on wheels should be well protected. Good protective gear prevents or reduces injuries and gives children the confidence to really let loose. At Funwheel, you'll find everything you need for protection – continue directly to the relevant category here:

Protective gear for children on a scooter

Helmet: the most important protection

No piece of equipment is as important as a helmet – it protects against dangerous head injuries. A modern bike helmet (standard EN 1078) is equally suitable for bicycles, scooters, and skateboards. You will find the largest selection in our helmet range: light, colorful children's helmets, helmets for adults, and bike helmets with lights for e-bikes.

Pads & protectors for knees, elbows & wrists

When skating, scootering, or inline skating, most falls result in impacts to the hands, knees, and elbows. A set of knee, elbow, and wrist pads absorbs exactly that – ideal for first riding attempts and the skatepark. You can find suitable models for children and adults in our pads & protectors section.

Being seen & parking securely

Safety is about more than just helmets and pads. To ensure your child is seen and heard in traffic in time, a bell and – especially in the darker months – good lighting are essential. And so that your bike or scooter stays exactly where it should, you will find suitable locks with us.

Which protective gear for which sport?

Sport Recommended protection
Bike & E-bike Helmet (strongly recommended), light & bell
Scooter Helmet + knee, elbow & wrist pads
Skateboard & Inline Helmet + complete pad set
BMX & Skatepark Helmet + knee & elbow pads
Hoverboard & Waveboard Helmet + pad set

For children, the rule is: better one piece too many than one too few – helmets and pads should be part of the gear from the very beginning to build good habits.

Frequently asked questions about protective gear

What protective gear does my child need for skating or scootering?+

At what age do pads become useful?+
As soon as a child is riding a scooter, balance bike, or skateboard independently. There are pad sets available in small children's sizes – this way, you protect your child from their very first riding attempts.
Is protective gear mandatory in Switzerland?+
There is no general legal requirement for helmets or pads for bicycles. However, a helmet is strongly recommended – especially for children, as it can prevent or reduce severe head injuries.
