Protective gear sets for knees, elbows & wrists

When skating, inline skating, and scootering, most falls involve the hands, knees, and elbows. A protective gear set is designed to protect exactly these areas. With us, protective gear almost always comes as a set: children's sets protect the knees and elbows, while larger sets (e.g., the Fila 3-Pack or the Globber sets for adults) also include wrist guards. Protection is always complemented by a helmet – you can find an overview of our entire range of protective equipment in our protection category.

Protective gear for children – from balance bike age onwards

Our range is deliberately designed for the little ones. Scoot and Ride is available for children from approx. 1–2 years (size XXS) and for 3- to 5-year-olds (size S) – perfect for their first rounds on a balance bike, scooter, or bicycle. Globber also offers junior sets (for body weights up to 25 kg or 50 kg respectively). These child-friendly brands rely on soft padding, a lightweight fit, and quick-release fasteners that even small hands can operate themselves – helping your child get used to rolling safely from the very beginning.

Protective gear for inline skating & older users

For faster inline skating, it is worth getting a set with wrist guards – as the hands usually catch almost every fall. The Fila 3-Pack (knee, elbow, wrist – for children, teenagers, and adults) and the Globber sets for adults (sizes M and L) are suitable for this. They are just as suitable for skateboards, scooters, and trips around the neighborhood.

Which size do you need?

The deciding factor is the age or the circumference of the knee and elbow – the protectors should fit snugly without being constricting. As a guide:

Size For whom (guideline)
XXS Toddlers approx. 1–2 years (up to ~25 kg)
XS – S Children approx. 3–6 years (up to ~50 kg)
M – L Teenagers & adults

For Scoot and Ride, you can also check the circumference (size S, for example, is 20–27 cm for the elbow, 26–33 cm for the knee). The exact measurements are listed for each product – when in doubt, it is better to take a quick measurement or ask us.

What you should look for when buying

  • Hard protective caps: solid outer shells on the knees and elbows absorb the impact.
  • Suitable set: knee and elbow pads are often sufficient for scooters & balance bikes; for inline skating, choose a set that includes wrist guards.
  • Fit & fastening: elastic Velcro straps (with quick-release on Scoot and Ride) ensure a firm hold that won't slip.
  • Tested safety: certified according to EU Regulation 2016/425 / EN 14120.
  • Breathable & lightweight: so the gear is actually worn and not taken off out of annoyance.

How much does protective gear cost?

At Funwheel, you can get complete protective gear sets starting from CHF 23.– (Globber Junior). Most children's and adult sets are around CHF 30.– – a small price to pay for safely protected knees, elbows, and wrists.

Frequently asked questions about protective gear & guards

Which protective gear does my child need for scootering, balance biking, or inline skating?+
For scooters and balance bikes, knee and elbow pads (plus a helmet) are usually sufficient. For inline skating, we recommend additional wrist guards because the hands catch almost every fall – the Fila 3-Pack, for example, is suitable for this.
What size protective gear is needed?+
Choose based on age or the circumference of the knee and elbow: XXS for toddlers (approx. 1–2 years), XS–S for children (approx. 3–6 years), M–L for teenagers and adults. You can find the exact measurements for each product.
Are wrist guards always included?+
Not in all sets: children's sets (e.g., Globber Junior, Scoot and Ride S) protect the knees and elbows. Larger sets like the Fila 3-Pack or the Globber sets for adults include additional wrist guards.
From what age is protective gear useful?+
As soon as a child is independently on a balance bike, scooter, inline skates, or skateboard. Scoot and Ride is available for children as young as 1–2 years (size XXS) – so you can protect your child from their very first attempts.
