Buying a scooter – what is important when buying a scooter
Basically, we differentiate between four types of scooters, which cover different needs. Mini scooters are designed for small children, city scooters for children and adults who want to get from A to B comfortably, and freestyle scooters for anyone who wants to perform tricks and stunts in skate parks. Scooters with an electric drive are fairly new on the market.
Which scooter should you buy?
Mini scooter / children's scooter
A mini scooter is nothing more than a 3-wheeled scooter for children, which is particularly light in weight and easy to handle. Entry-level kickboards are available in various sizes, designs and colors and are suitable for boys and girls from 2 to 6 years of age. Kick scooters for children are toys and means of transport in one and popular companions for children on playgrounds but also on walks with their parents. Our models from the brands "Globber" and "Scoot and Ride" are of comparable quality to a "micro scooter" and are equipped with patented controls, safety pads, adjustable handlebars and a folding mechanism. Products in pastel colors are currently trendy and models with LED light wheels and light decks are very popular with children. Entry-level mini scooter models with seats are available for children from 1.5 years of age. When buying a children's scooter, always make sure that the model is designed for the child's age and size. City scooter
City scooters are the classic scooters that won the hearts of children and adults in the 90s. They are lightly built, have large wheels and, thanks to the wide and low footboard, are perfect as a means of transport for the school or work commute. Thanks to a folding mechanism, most models can be folded up and stored to save space. Our brand "Motion" is particularly inexpensive and offers a perfect price-performance ratio. The scooter manufacturer "Globber" has specialized in high-end city scooters that meet even the highest demands. In our scooter shop you will find a wide range of products for adults and children, which differ in size, price, design and quality. Freestyle scooter / stunt scooter
Do you want to perform daring jumps and tricks with your scooter? Then we recommend that you buy a freestyle scooter. Stunt scooters are extremely robust, agile and stable and are perfect for jumps in skate parks and pump tracks. Our brands "Motion", "MGP" (replacement for Chilli) and "Madd Gear" use high-quality materials that are designed for maximum loads and make stylish jumps as easy as possible for you. A stunt scooter is the perfect companion for skate parks, ramps and natural obstacles in your city Are you ready for freestyle and action? Scooter with pneumatic wheels
Scooters with pneumatic wheels are similar to the kick scooter, which was developed in 1817 by the Baden inventor Karl von Drais. They have one decisive advantage over a modern kickboard: thanks to the pneumatic wheels, they can be used not only on asphalt roads but also on uneven gravel paths. This model is a perfect scooter for adults and children for whom mobility is the main priority. Are you ready to conquer forest and gravel paths with your kickboard? We would be happy to advise you personally on all aspects of kickboards and e-scooters. Prices: From CHF 160.-.
E-Scooter / Electric Scooter
E-scooters have had an incredible success story in recent years. In Switzerland, too, many cities have been flooded with rental models from many providers. But e-scooters are also becoming increasingly popular for private individuals, as they are ideal for short distances and are extremely fast and maneuverable. Battery performance has improved continuously over the years, while purchase costs have fallen. Do you want to explore your city without muscle power on an electric scooter? Prices start from CHF 379 to 1399.
Buying a scooter – what you should pay attention to
Scooters or kickboards are suitable for young and old as a means of transport or as action sports equipment in skate parks. Depending on your personal needs, other features are more important. You should consider the following points when buying a scooter:
1. The correct handlebar height
An upright posture is important for comfortable and convenient riding with your scooter. You will automatically achieve this posture if the handlebars are high enough. When standing upright, your arms should be at a right angle when your hands grasp the handles. This handlebar height enables fatigue-free riding. A height-adjustable handlebar offers particular advantages. It allows you to adjust the handlebar height continuously to your own body size. A height-adjustable handlebar is particularly useful for scooters for children and young people who are still growing. The handlebar height can be adjusted at any time if necessary and your scooter grows with them. On a stunt scooter, the handlebar is significantly wider than on a city kickboard and is not height-adjustable.
2. Height of the footboard
The wheels play an important role in scooters. The diameter of the wheels is the most important factor. City scooters should have wheels with a large diameter. The large wheels ensure smooth riding because their size means they can compensate for bumps and uneven surfaces. But large wheels have another advantage: you can reach higher speeds with the same amount of effort.
3. Size of the rolls
4. Folding mechanism
Scooters for children and city scooters almost always have a folding mechanism that allows the handlebars of the scooter to be easily folded down. This is practical if you want to store or transport your micro kickboard. However, a folding mechanism is always a weak point. You should therefore only buy a scooter with a folding mechanism if you really need it. Stunt scooters never have a height-adjustable handlebar.
5. Suspension
Suspension supports the effect of large wheels. It absorbs even more shocks and bumps in the road surface. This gives your kickboard an even smoother and, above all, back-friendly ride. Many scooters only have suspension at the front or rear. For the greatest riding comfort, however, your scooter should have suspension at the front and rear, such as the Full Suspension model from "Motion Scooter".
How much does a scooter cost?
You can get scooters in different price ranges. The quality of the individual components and the materials used have a strong influence on the price of a scooter. The higher the price, the higher the quality . A higher price is therefore justified if you get better brakes, ergonomic handles or a stable and durable folding mechanism. The differences are often not noticeable at first glance. But they become apparent over time with regular use. Even if you ride a lot, you can enjoy riding your scooter for a long time with good materials.
