What is a wave board?
The waveboard, formerly also called a casterboard (caster = English for role), is a fun sports device similar to a skateboard. The difference to a skateboard is the movable , central axis . Instead of a continuous deck like on a skateboard, two plastic foot plates are used, which are connected by a short torsion bar, which allows the foot plates to rotate slightly in opposite directions around the longitudinal axis. A roller is attached under each foot plate, which can pivot freely or to a limited extent, depending on the model. The waveboard is also often called a " snakeboard ". This name comes from the snake-like driving style of the waveboard. Apart from the movable axis, the biggest difference to a classic skateboard is that a snakeboard only has two wheels.
How does a wave skateboard work?
A snakeboard consists of two footplates and an axle or torsion bar in the middle. The board moves forward by applying different pressures to the two footplates (alternating). You need a bit of practice to ride a waveboard safely. But once you've learned how, you'll have a lot of street surfing action and fun with your waveboard.
How do you ride and steer a snakeboard?
First of all, you need to know whether you are riding " regularly " or " goofy ". Regular means that the left foot is placed in front, while "goofy" means that the right foot is in front. Put your " leading foot " (the front foot) on the front footplate, then push off lightly on the asphalt with your " swing foot ". As soon as you have a bit of momentum, you can move the "swing foot" on the rear footplate and keep your "wave board" moving with small wave-like movements. The big advantage of a snakeboard compared to a skateboard is that you can keep both feet on the board while riding and still not lose speed. This is because you don't have to push off on the asphalt to gain speed; the propulsion is generated by the wave movement.
Where can you drive?
In Switzerland, snakeboards are not street legal. This means that you can only ride them on private property (garages, forecourts, private roads, etc.). However, busy roads are too dangerous for snakeboards anyway, and they are not allowed on the sidewalk either.
At what age can you ride a waveboard?
A waveboard can be ridden at any age. However, a good sense of balance and a certain level of athleticism are important prerequisites. As a rule, children can start riding a snakeboard from the age of 5-6. Most children quickly become familiar with the unique snake movements and are happy to pass on their knowledge to other children.
How much does a waveboard cost?
The price for a snakeboard in Switzerland is currently between CHF 64 and CHF 149. As always, higher quality is reflected in the price of the board. We recommend buying a high-quality model that promises a long life cycle.
Are there different snakeboard models?
There are waveboards with two movable footplates or so-called Ripstik boards , which consist of a one-piece surface. The more modern variant is the board with two movable footplates. We particularly recommend this model for all beginners.
What should you pay attention to when buying?
Weight: A particularly smooth ride can be achieved with a light and maneuverable snakeboard. The light materials are a little more expensive to buy, which is reflected in the price.
Quality: When buying a waveboard, choose the best quality so that you can enjoy your fun sports item for as long as possible. We also recommend this approach from an ecological point of view.
Wheel quality: Wheels with good ball bearings improve the gliding properties of your Waveoard and ensure that you can move forward with little effort. So you shouldn't skimp on the ball bearings.

Areas of application for wave boards
The waveboard is a typical street surfing board that can be used anywhere there is smooth ground. Asphalt, concrete floors, wooden floors or even floors in sports halls are best. Make sure you avoid small stones, as they can suddenly slow down your snakeboard with only 2 wheels and cause you to fall. School buildings, sports fields, playgrounds and traffic-free neighborhood streets are popular places to use this unique fun sports equipment.
Safety while skating
Basically, riding is no more dangerous than riding a scooter or bicycle. Here, too, practice makes perfect. If you adjust the risk and speed to your ability, you can avoid unpleasant accidents. We recommend wearing a helmet, wrist and knee pads when riding. Be particularly careful during the learning phase, as dangerous falls can quickly occur. At the beginning, hold on to someone or a railing. After a short time, you will develop a feel for your board and will be able to make your first cool serpentine lines across the asphalt.
Our brand Flexsurfing
The Flexboard from Flexsurfing boasts an unusual design. The torsion bar inside the Flexsurfing board is longer and connected directly to the axles, which ensures a particularly stable connection to the foot consoles. This optimizes the handling and improves the durability of your board.
