Buy a Stunt Scooter | Freestyle Scooters for Park & Street

What to look for when buying a stunt scooter?

There are several things that distinguish a good stunt scooter. You should pay attention to the following when buying:

  • Quality has its price. High-quality freestyle scooters cost a little more
  • A stunt scooter should be CNC-machined and made of aluminum
  • Look for clean and professionally crafted welds
  • The wheels should have at least ABEC 7 or, better yet, ABEC 9 bearings; for professional use, we recommend ABEC 11 type bearings
  • For stunts, an HIC or SCS compression system should be installed
  • The scooter should be sized so that it is ridden between hip and buttock height; scooters that are too large or too small are not recommended
  • Scooters that are foldable and height-adjustable are definitely not stunt scooters – stay away from them at the skatepark

Features of a freestyle scooter

1. Deck

The deck of a stunt scooter is usually made of hardened aluminum and is particularly robust while remaining lightweight. Some brands feature decks with CNC-machined cutouts, which looks stylish and makes the deck even lighter. Whether the deck should be wide or narrow is a matter of taste. For riders with large feet, we recommend a stunt scooter model with a wide deck in any case, which ensures a good stance.

2. Griptape

Griptape is applied to every deck for a better grip, with the highest quality and extra durability used for stunt scooters. Should the griptape become damaged after intensive use, you can order various griptapes with manufacturer logos or graphic elements in our online shop, which will help you maintain a secure stance and add even more style to your stunt scooter.

3. Handlebars

Stunt scooters are available with classic T-bar handlebars or with a triangle-head bar. Skatepark riders tend to prefer narrower bars, while for many street riders, the bars can hardly be wide enough. The material of the handlebars is aluminum, steel, carbon, or titanium.Good to know: For stability reasons, the handlebars of stunt scooters are generally not height-adjustable, unlike a conventional scooter.

4. Wheels

Basically, we distinguish between three sizes for stunt scooters; small models (100mm), medium models (110mm, most common), and for larger scooters, 120mm. The rule of thumb is: the larger the wheel, the more speed. Another important factor for speed is the quality of the installed bearings. Most freestyle wheels have a CNC-machined aluminum core, while the wheel itself is made of polyurethane.

5. Bearings

There are different quality levels for stunt scooter bearings; generally, we recommend using ABEC 7 or ABEC 9 bearings, which provide sufficient speed. A bearing that is to run smoothly must be maintained. Regular cleaning and lubrication of the wheels help to keep the running speed high.

6. Brake

Most stunt scooter manufacturers use brakes made of bent steel or aluminum, which bring the scooter to a standstill with a firm step on the rear axle. Front-wheel handbrakes are practically never installed, as they pose a high risk of accidents, especially for beginners.

7. Compression System

The compression system connects the handlebars to the fork and the deck. Similar to the wheels, the compression system of a stunt scooter for girls and boys must also be designed for the particular stresses of jumps. There are different types of compression systems. We recommend opting for an HIC or SCS system when buying your stunt scooter.

Maximum Load

Almost all adult city scooters are tested for a weight of 100 kg according to the EN 14619 standard and are equipped with large wheels. Heavier individuals should preferably buy a stunt scooter, because although they are also only tested up to 100 kg, they are manufactured to a significantly higher standard and designed for greater loads.

Colors and Paintwork

The style and color of your stunt scooter are, of course, also important criteria. Choose between simple paint jobs in matte or particularly shrill shades. Or would you like something more unusual? Then we recommend a scooter model with a water-decal finish, where the pattern is applied to the scooter with a water film. Anodization also achieves unique design effects, where the metal is anodized and brought to the desired color.

Folding Mechanism

Unlike a children's scooter or city scooter, stunt scooters almost never feature a folding mechanism. The reason for this is the higher stress in the freestyle sector, where the folding mechanism represents a weak point that, in the worst case, can break. Therefore, always use a scooter without a folding mechanism when performing tricks and stunts!

Stunt Scooter Areas of Application

Freestyle scooters were originally developed for stunts in skateparks or the halfpipe. Thanks to their cool design and freestyle capabilities, however, stunt scooters have also become popular with students and young people for everyday use on the street. A real hype around the trendy freestyle scooters even emerged, and today, it is not only hobby athletes who measure themselves against each other on the street with their skills. National and international competitions and championships are now held for advanced professional athletes. Do you want to build your own freestyle park at home? Then we recommend our skate ramps, which can be combined as desired and are perfect for practicing your tricks.

And one more tip for all those who want to reach for the stars : Do you want to take your skills to a higher level without risking unnecessary injuries? Then our brand-new trampoline scooters could be the perfect choice for you.
