Buy stunt scooters | Freestyle scooters for park & street

What should you look for when buying a stunt scooter?

There are various things that characterize a good stunt scooter. Here are some things you should look out for when buying one:

  • Quality has its price. High-quality freestyle scooters cost a little more
  • A stunt scooter should be CNC-machined and made of aluminum
  • Pay attention to clean and professionally made welds
  • The wheels should have at least ABEC 7 or better ABEC 9 ball bearings, in the professional sector we recommend bearings of type ABEC 11
  • For stunts, a HIC or SCS compression system should be installed
  • The scooter should be between the hips and buttocks in terms of size; scooters that are too big or too small are not recommended
  • Scooters that are foldable and height-adjustable are definitely not stunt scooters – keep your hands off them in the skate park

Features of a freestyle scooter

1. Deck / running board

The deck or footboard of a stunt scooter is usually made of hardened aluminum and is particularly robust and lightweight. Some brands have CNC-milled cutouts on the deck, which looks stylish and makes the footboard even lighter. Whether the deck should be wide or narrow is a matter of taste. For riders with large feet, we definitely recommend a stunt scooter model with a wide deck, which ensures good stability.

2. Grip tape

A grip tape is mounted on each deck for a better grip, with the highest quality and particularly long-lasting being used for stunt scooters. If the grip tape does get damaged during intensive use, you can order various grip tapes with manufacturer logos or graphic elements in our online shop, which will help you to stand securely and give your stunt scooter even more style.

3. Handlebar

Stunt scooters are available with classic T-bar handlebars or with triangular handlebar heads. Skate park riders tend to prefer narrower handlebars, while for many street riders the handlebars can hardly be wide enough. The handlebars are made of aluminum, steel, carbon or titanium. Good to know: For stability reasons, the handlebars of stunt scooters are usually not height-adjustable, unlike a conventional scooter .

4. Wheels / rollers

Basically, we differentiate between three sizes of stunt scooters: small models 100mm, medium models 110mm (most common) and then 120mm for the large scooters. The principle is that the bigger the wheel, the more speed. Another important factor for speed is the quality of the installed ball bearing. Most freestyle wheels have a CNC-milled aluminum core, while the wheel itself is made of polyurethane.

5. Ball bearings

There are different quality levels for ball bearings for stunt scooters. We generally recommend using ABEC 7 or ABEC 9 bearings, which ensure sufficient speed. A ball bearing that is supposed to run smoothly needs to be looked after. Regularly cleaning and greasing the wheels will help to keep the running speed high.

6. Brake

Most stunt scooter manufacturers use steel or aluminum bent brakes, which bring the scooter to a standstill with a strong kick on the rear axle. Front wheel hand brakes are practically never installed, as they pose a high risk of accidents, especially for beginners.

7. Compression system

The compression system connects the handlebars to the fork and the footboard. Similar to the wheels, the compression system on a stunt scooter for girls and boys must also be designed to withstand the special stresses of jumps. There are different types of compression systems. We recommend that you choose a HIC or SCS system when purchasing your stunt scooter.

Maximum load

Almost all city scooters for adults are tested to 100 kg according to the EN 14619 standard and are equipped with large wheels. Heavier people should preferably buy a stunt scooter , because although these are also only tested up to 100 kg, they are of significantly higher quality and designed for greater loads.

Colors and varnish

The style and color of your stunt scooter are also important criteria. Choose between simple paint finishes in matt or particularly bright colors. Or would you like something a little more unusual? Then we recommend a scooter model with a water decal finish , where the pattern is applied to the scooter with a film of water. Unique design effects can also be achieved with anodizing, where the metal is anodized and given the desired color.

Folding mechanism

In contrast to a children's scooter or city scooter, stunt scooters almost never have a folding mechanism. The reason for this is the higher load in the freestyle area, whereby the folding mechanism is a weak point that can break in the worst case. Therefore, always use a scooter without a folding mechanism when riding tricks and doing stunts!

Stunt Scooter Applications

Freestyle scooters were originally developed for stunts in skate parks or half pipes. Thanks to their cool design and freestyle options, stunt scooters have also become popular with schoolchildren and young people in everyday life on the street. There was even a real hype about the trendy freestyle scooters and today it's not just amateur athletes who are competing with their skills on the street. National and international competitions and championships are now held for advanced professional athletes. Do you want to build your own freestyle park at home? Then we recommend our skate ramps , which can be combined as desired and are perfect for practicing your tricks.

And another tip for all those who want to reach the top: Do you want to take your skills to a higher level without risking unnecessary injuries? Then our brand new trampoline scooters could be the perfect choice for you.
