Which board suits your child?
Not every "skateboard" is the same. At Funwheel it's all about sturdy, affordable boards packed with fun – for kids, beginners and the whole family. Depending on age and use, a different board fits:
- Skateboard (complete board): the classic board for first tricks and the way to school – assembled and ready to roll.
- Cruiser: small, agile and colourful – ideal for relaxed rolling around town.
- Longboard: long and stable – for cruising and longer distances.
- Waveboard: the trend board with two wheels – balance and fun in one.
- Inline skates: rolling without a board – size-adjustable for kids.
- Skate ramps: your own mini ramp for first jumps in the garden.
Skateboard for kids – which size (inches)?
Skateboards are measured in inches. Quick conversion: 1 inch = 2.54 cm (28 inches ≈ 71 cm, 31 inches ≈ 79 cm). What matters is less the age than the child's height and how confidently they stand:
| Board length | Age (approx.) | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| approx. 28 inches (71 cm) | approx. 4–7 years | younger kids, first attempts |
| approx. 31 inches (79 cm) | approx. 8 years – teens | kids, teens & beginners |
| Cruiser / Longboard | from approx. 8 years | prefer cruising over tricks? → Cruiser / Longboard |
Buying a skateboard for beginners
Our skateboards are complete boards: deck, trucks, wheels and bearings come fully assembled – unpack and roll. Just right for getting started, without an expensive pro setup. All shipped from our Swiss warehouse, with fast delivery and personal advice.
What to look for when buying a skateboard
- Size: board length to match the child's height (see table above).
- Complete board: for beginners clearly better than separate parts – matched and cheaper.
- Wheels & bearings: softer wheels and ABEC 7 bearings roll smoothly and forgive bumps.
- Grip: a rough surface or grip tape for secure footing.
More in our guides How to find the right skateboard and Learning to skateboard.
The parts of your skateboard
- 1 – Deck: the board you stand on; the rough surface (grip tape) gives secure footing.
- 2 – Wheels: shape the ride – smaller = more agile, larger = smoother (kids' boards usually 50–54 mm).
- 3 – Trucks: connect wheels and deck and handle steering; set a little firmer for kids = more stability.
- 5 – Bushings: sit in the truck and control how easily the board turns – soft = agile, hard = stable.
- 6 – Bearings: determine how smoothly the wheels spin; ABEC 7 is plenty for everyday use.
What does a skateboard cost?
At Funwheel you'll find complete skateboards from approx. CHF 39.90; higher-quality boards sit around CHF 55–80. Wear parts are available as spare parts – repair instead of replace.
